When Roads Are Cut Off, Compassion Finds a Way: KITA BISA, SALAM SETARA and RELAWAN GESIT Provide Three Drinking Water Units

EAST ACEH / ACEH TAMIANG, INDONESIA — When landslides cut off roads and communities continue to face difficult conditions, solidarity can become a lifeline.

In a humanitarian initiative aimed at supporting communities affected by disaster-related challenges, KITA BISA, SALAM SETARA, and RELAWAN GESIT have provided three mini drinking-water depot units to residents in two rural areas of East Aceh and Aceh Tamiang.

The assistance was distributed to Melidi Village, Simpang Jernih District, East Aceh Regency, and Bengkelang Village, Bandar Pusaka District, Aceh Tamiang Regency.

For the communities receiving the assistance, the three drinking-water units represent more than basic infrastructure. They are a symbol of concern, solidarity, and hope at a time when access to essential services remains challenging.

A First Step of Humanitarian Action

This distribution marks the first humanitarian activity carried out by the group.

The initiative was coordinated by Nasrul Anggara, together with members of the RG Lhokseumawe volunteer team:

  • Rifka Asyura
  • Muhammad Ikhsan Azhar
  • Kausar Khawarizmi
  • Novia Rahma
  • Dio Wandana
  • Nasywa Jalilah
  • Syifa Nazila

Their mission is straightforward but meaningful: to help communities facing hardship and ensure that assistance reaches people who need it most.

Three Units, One Shared Hope

The assistance consists of three mini mineral-water depot units, intended to support the availability of drinking water for local residents.

While the facilities may appear modest, their significance is much greater for communities where access to basic necessities can be affected by damaged infrastructure and difficult transportation routes.

The humanitarian effort also highlights a broader issue: the condition of village roads remains a major concern.

In some areas, roads have been affected by landslides, making transportation and the delivery of assistance more difficult.

The Hope Beyond Drinking Water

The donors and volunteers hope that assistance to these communities will not stop with the provision of drinking-water facilities.

They are also calling for greater attention to the condition of village infrastructure, particularly roads affected by landslides.

Restoring road access is essential not only for transportation, but also for education, healthcare, economic activities, and the distribution of basic necessities.

Their greatest hope is that government agencies, humanitarian organizations, businesses, and members of the public will work together to help clear and repair roads buried or damaged by landslides.

“The drinking-water assistance is only a beginning. We hope that greater attention will also be given to restoring road access so that communities can move forward and rebuild their lives.”

Compassion That Opens Another Road

The initiative by KITA BISA, SALAM SETARA, and RELAWAN GESIT demonstrates that humanitarian action does not always have to begin with something massive.

Sometimes, it begins with three simple water units.

But for people living in difficult conditions, those three units can carry a powerful message: they have not been forgotten.

When roads are blocked by landslides, compassion can open another path — a path toward hope, recovery, and a better future.
