Aceh Tamiang Deputy Regent Receives Sekumur Residents’ Demands Over PT Seumadam HGU
ACEH TAMIANG, Indonesia – The long-running dispute over the status of a land concession held by PT Seumadam has resurfaced, with residents of Sekumur Village, Sekerak District, urging the Aceh Tamiang administration to provide legal clarity over the disputed land.
The residents staged a demonstration outside the Aceh Tamiang Regent’s Office on Thursday (September 3, 2026), voicing concerns over HGU No. 102, which they claim expired in 2021.
Their demands were received directly by Aceh Tamiang Deputy Regent Ismail, SE.I. The meeting was also attended by the Chairperson of the Aceh Tamiang Regional House of Representatives (DPRK), the Aceh Tamiang Police Chief, and the Head of the Aceh Tamiang Land Office (BPN).

During the dialogue, Ismail said the local government was committed to finding a fair solution while ensuring that the legal status of the land was properly clarified.
He stressed that the status of PT Seumadam’s concession should be established before any extension of the HGU is considered, while taking into account the interests and role of the local government.
“In principle, the government wants this issue to be resolved fairly. The status of PT Seumadam’s concession must first be clarified before any HGU extension process is carried out, while also taking into consideration the local government,” Ismail said.
The residents are seeking the use of the land for community interests, particularly for the development of permanent housing (Huntap). They argue that the land could provide an important solution to local housing needs if its legal and administrative status is resolved.
Beyond the land dispute, the residents also raised concerns over what they described as the company’s limited attention to the people of Sekumur Village.
They specifically highlighted the company’s response to the community during flooding, saying greater corporate attention and support were needed when residents faced natural disasters.
The meeting provided a forum for direct dialogue between the residents and the local government, with relevant authorities brought together to seek a way forward on the disputed HGU.
The Aceh Tamiang administration is expected to facilitate further discussions aimed at resolving the issue transparently and in accordance with applicable regulations, while balancing legal certainty, fairness, and the interests of the local community.
