ACEH TAMIANG — Concerned about piles of garbage being dumped carelessly along the roads, residents of Suka Jaya Hamlet II, Pengidam Village, Bandar Pusaka Subdistrict, Aceh Tamiang, took matters into their own hands by organizing a community clean-up effort.

The community service activity was led directly by Mrs. Antek, wife of the Pengidam Village Head (Datok Penghulu) and Chairwoman of the Pengidam Village Family Welfare Movement (PKK). Together with local women and residents, she mobilized the community to clean garbage scattered along the roads in Suka Jaya Hamlet II.
Also present and supporting the activity was Ahmad Akbar Aritonang, a community figure from Pengidam Village and a member of the Investigation Team of the Aceh Tamiang Branch of Badan Advokasi Indonesia (BAI).

The clean-up was carried out in response to residents’ concerns over garbage that had been repeatedly dumped along the roadside. The condition had reportedly made residents uncomfortable when passing through the area and raised concerns about the cleanliness and health of the surrounding environment.
What makes the situation particularly concerning is that the road is located at a junction leading toward the Sangka Pane tourist area in Pengidam. Residents therefore believe that keeping the area clean is important not only for their own comfort but also for maintaining the image of the village and access to the tourist destination.
The residents hope that the community clean-up will become a turning point in raising public awareness. They are calling on everyone to stop disposing of household waste indiscriminately and to take greater responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness of their surroundings.
The spirit shown by the women of Suka Jaya Hamlet II demonstrates that environmental responsibility does not always have to begin with large programs. Sometimes, meaningful change starts with residents picking up the garbage along their own streets.
Ahmad Akbar Aritonang also emphasized the importance of community solidarity in maintaining a clean and healthy environment. The activity, he said, should not end once the garbage has been removed, but should be followed by a sustained commitment from residents to prevent the area from becoming dirty again.
The message from Suka Jaya Hamlet II is clear: a clean environment is a shared responsibility. If residents work together and stop littering, the roads can remain clean, comfortable and safe for everyone.
For the people of Pengidam Village, the hope is simple but meaningful: stronger community unity, greater environmental awareness and a cleaner village for present and future generations.
