Aceh Tamiang, Indonesia – The Branch Executive Board of the Indonesian Advocacy Agency (DPC BAI) Aceh Tamiang urges the public to be wiser, smarter, and more responsible in using social media amid the rapid development of digital technology today.
The Chairman of DPC BAI Aceh Tamiang, Syamsul, stated that social media plays an important role as a means of communication, information dissemination, and public education. However, on the other hand, social media can also become a source of conflict if it is used to spread hoaxes, hate speech, slander, and provocations that may divide unity among the people.
“Social media should become a platform to strengthen relationships and build a harmonious society, not a place to spread hatred or unverified information,” he said.
DPC BAI Aceh Tamiang appeals to the public to always “filter before sharing” any information they receive. In addition, people are also encouraged to maintain ethics when commenting, respect differences of opinion, and avoid being easily provoked by issues whose truth has not been confirmed.
According to the Secretary of DPC BAI Aceh Tamiang, Saut Simanjuntak, wise use of social media is part of efforts to maintain security, public order, and unity within society. A mature attitude in using social media is considered very important to ensure that the digital space remains healthy, safe, and beneficial for everyone.
“Do not use social media as a tool to bring others down. Use social media to spread positive, educational, and inspirational content for the progress of the region and the nation,” said Saut.
DPC BAI Aceh Tamiang also encourages the younger generation to become pioneers of digital literacy and actively combat the spread of false information (hoaxes) that can harm the wider community.
The call for wise use of social media continues to be promoted by various institutions and organizations in Indonesia as part of public digital literacy education efforts. (SIP Simanjuntak)
